Details

This Poverty Simulation is a mandatory assignment in PIF 101 for OMS1. For this simulation, please sign up for a participant option below.

There are two different participant options.

“Volunteers” who run a booth or service provided during the simulation. It would be helpful if those running these booths have experienced poverty, but not required. Volunteers will need to arrive 30 minutes before the other participants. Volunteers will get an email before the event with more information.
“Family members” will participate in the simulation in assigned family groups. You will be completing a series of tasks within the simulation. You will receive all the information at the simulation.

The simulation will be held in the Ballroom on Noorda campus. Please arrive at 2pm (1:30pm for the volunteers), the simulation and debrief will end at 5pm. Casual dress is ok. This simulation will be different than the medical simulations you experience in other parts of the curriculum. This is an activity meant to gain insight into challenges and experiences of those in poverty and/or participating in government assistance programs. Please come ready to step into someone else’s shoes (figuratively).
