Noorda-COM is partnering with the Provo City School District, the Provo Open, and Mayor Michelle Kaufusi to provide a health outreach program with the long-term goal of changing the health trajectories of Provo’s next generation! This health outreach program benefits the children of Provo, and it can be especially beneficial for low-income and under-resourced communities. Volunteers will guide children through six screening stations, document findings, and assist in identifying potential health concerns. Assignments will be given the day of, before the event starts and are as follows:
Volunteer Stations:
Check-In:
Welcome each child, hand them a passport, and explain the process. Once they complete all six stations, they will receive a gift bag.
Station 1: Vitals
Collect the child's age, sex, height, weight, blood pressure, and heart rate/O2. If anything appears abnormal, consult a provider and record the findings.
Station 2: Cardiac/ABD
Perform heart, lung, and abdominal exams (palpation and auscultation). Report and document any abnormal findings after consulting a provider.
Station 3: Neuro
Conduct cranial nerve and reflex tests (triceps, brachioradialis, patella, Achilles). Abnormal findings should be confirmed and documented with a provider.
Station 4: MSK (Musculoskeletal)
Assess squat test, toe touch, basic range of motion, strength, scoliosis check, and heel-to-toe walk. Document any abnormal findings after confirming with a provider.
Station 5: Vision
Perform basic acuity tests for each eye and use the Ishihara color test to check for color blindness. Document any abnormal findings.
Station 6: HEENT (Head, Ears, Eyes, Nose, Throat)
Use an otoscope to examine the ears, check for any abnormalities in the mouth and throat, and assess the nose. Document findings and report any concerns to a provider.
Check-Out:
Translators will help communicate any positive findings to the parents and direct them to informational booths for further guidance.
Thank you for helping us in this much-needed event in the community!
